Historic Rehabilitations

Wichita, Kansas

For years the largest city in the state has utilized historic tax credits in a variety of downtown and neighborhood development projects large and small.  Redevelopment continues and has spread to commercial and residential areas outside of Wichita’s city center.

Spencer Preservation-supported projects include Broadway Auto Park (Knightley’s Parking Garage), the Commodore Hotel, Renfro Apartments, The Granada and Grandview Apartments near WSU, the Winfield Grocery Building, the Brown Building, Petroleum Building, Kauffman Building, and the Baltimore (Occidental) Hotel.

Eastside projects include the Lahn and Suhm Buildings in the Ash-Grove Historic District on East Douglas, the Packard Building, apartment buildings on S. Kansas Avenue, and Eastwood Plaza Apartments on S. Oliver.  Westside projects include the old Odd Fellows Hall at 930 W. Douglas and the Riley Holden Building, also in Delano.  The Riley Holden project involved removal of an aggregate facade installed by Otasco when it opened in the 1960s and repair/reconstruction of the original brick facade beneath.  The projects reflect the work of a variety of design, development, and construction teams including NAI Martens, Bokeh Development, Stan Sheldon Architects, 310 Studio, Spangenburg Phillips Tice Architects, Sovereign Construction, Hentzen Construction, Farha Construction and others.
